The Witch Way

The Witch Way X43 and X44 is a high quality, frequent express service between Pennine Lancashire and Manchester.

Running from Nelson via Burnley, Rawtenstall and Prestwich, the vehicles in their distinctive livery offer a comfortable and relaxing journey.

The double deck vehicles have individual, high backed, aircraft style leather seats on both decks. There are just 68 seats, with the best leg room you will find. Tinted windows absorb glare so you can enjoy the view, read or use electronic equipment comfortably. Low entrances kneel to kerb height allowing easy access for buggies and wheelchairs. For your security there are CCTV cameras throughout, recording high definition colour images and sound, as well as improved interior lighting.

The frequent service is great for commuting, students or leisure visitors. Buses run Monday to Friday up to every 10 minutes at peak times and every 20 minutes daytimes, and up to every 20 minutes on Saturdays. Sunday services runs up to every 30 minutes.

The area around Pendle Hill has had a long association with witchcraft. To reflect this link, all the Witch Way vehicles are named after one of the Pendle Witches and the judge who presided over their trial in Lancaster. The vehicles are named after: Elizabeth Southerns, Elizabeth Device, Alizon Device, James Device, Ann Whittle, Ann Redfearne, Jane Bulcock, John Bulcock, Katherine Hewitt, Alice Nutter, Isobel Robey, Jennet Preston, Margaret Pearson, Alice Grey and Judge Bromley.
